CAPRI's Pulmonary Programs
Our Vision
“STRIVING TO ACHIEVE OPTIMAL HEART AND LUNG HEALTH IN OUR COMMUNITY”
Pulmonary Rehabilitation can help you to decrease symptoms such as shortness of breath, coughing, and wheezing; increase strength and endurance; decrease stress; and reduce the risks of future lung problems and related hospital admissions.
You can benefit from Pulmonary Rehabilitation if you have been diagnosed with emphysema, asthma, chronic bronchitis, interstitial fibrosis, asbestoses, COPD, or are preparing for or have had a lung transplant.
Upon your physician’s referral, you will be evaluated by the program nurse and exercise specialist to determine your current level of abilities. We will work with you to design an individualized program to meet your needs. Pulmonary Rehabilitation sessions are 1 ½ hours, meeting two times a week for 21 sessions.
Our Pulmonary Rehabilitation program originated in Bremerton. As of June 2007, we have pulmonary classes in Poulsbo on Tuesday and Thursday morning. The pulmonary classes are offered in Port Orchard on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
The initial appointment and spirometry is in our Bremerton business office.

Then you will enter our pulmonary classes and have your initial 6 minute walk evaluation with the Exercise Specialist. During your eighteen exercise sessions, you will be followed by a dedicated group of healthcare professionals who coordinate your rehabilitation with your referring physician. While exercising, the nurse and Exercise Specialist will monitor your vital signs, O2 saturation levels and listen to your lungs. In addition to your exercise regime is education. We will inform you about your illness and help you understand the symptoms of the disease along with nutrition and dietary changes, other diseases that may be linked such as diabetes, pharmaceutical information and other various changes needed in your lifestyle to keep you healthy and strong. We also bring in volunteer speakers from companies around Kitsap. They can tell you about new products on the market to make life a bit easier and more comfortable.
Our Pulmonary program has many success stories. Read on about Pam:
Pam was exposed to hazardous environmental pollutants during her career. They caused permanent damage to her respiratory system. Pam was placed on oxygen not only during exercise but even during everyday activities. Pam was referred to CAPRI in hopes of increasing her lung capacity. After Pam completed her sessions with CAPRI, she took her final stress test with her referring physician. She was able to walk 20 minutes on a treadmill without her oxygen tank and was able to keep her oxygen absorption at normal capacity. Pam immediately called the staff at CAPRI to report she would be joining our Maintenance program but her oxygen tank wouldn’t have to accompany her anymore.
